Taking care of your body during pregnancy

Exercise is recommended throughout pregnancy. You can continue to stay active until the end of your pregnancy, listening to your body. If your doctor has given you special instructions, follow them.

Hormonal changes, uterine growth and enlarging breasts affect the posture and functioning of the pregnant body. These changes put a strain on the back and can cause back pain.

Pregnancy also puts more strain on the pelvic floor, so paying special attention to pelvic floor health is recommended.

Our physiotherapists have prepared an online guide on body care during pregnancy. The guide has been produced as a joint project between HUS and the City of Helsinki and is currently available in Finnish and Swedish.

Physiotherapy groups during pregnancy

We provide physiotherapy family coaching groups for pregnant individuals in Helsinki. We organise groups both remotely and locally.

In the group, you will receive preventive advice and guidance on the musculoskeletal strain caused by pregnancy and childbirth.

If necessary, you can get a referral for an individual appointment with a physiotherapist from your nurse or doctor.
