You do not have to choose your maternity hospital in advance. All hospitals have the same treatment practices.
Because births are emergency care services, hospitals alternate between busier and quieter days. When you call the maternity hospital, you may be referred to another hospital in the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, if the hospital you called is busy at the moment. This ensures that we have time for you and your family during and after the birth.
If your physician has determined that you or your baby require special monitoring during the pregnancy, we will always take care of your childbirth at the Women's Hospital.
If you want to give birth outside the HUS area, you should contact your preferred maternity hospital during your pregnancy to find out what arrangements are needed.
Always call the childbirth helpline before you arrive. When you call, you can talk to a midwife and get further instructions.
