The birth of a child is a unique, moving and emotional experience for a family. Memories and the experience of childbirth can affect you long after the delivery.
We will tell you about childbirth at the clinic and you can also get useful information about childbirth at the joint family coaching session provided by the maternity clinic and the maternity hospital. If you wish, you can also make use of various training courses and guides.
There is no one right way to prepare for childbirth. One person might benefit from relaxation exercises, while another may find the best way to prepare is to read all the available information about giving birth.
We recommend thinking about the following:
- who you want to accompany you during childbirth
- whether you have any wishes regarding pain relief, or
- whether you have any wishes regarding the birthing position.
However, you do not have to decide on the birthing position or pain relief method in advance, as you can act in accordance with the situation during labour. If you wish, you can write down your wishes and take your notes with you to the hospital. It is best to avoid planning too carefully, however, as every childbirth is unique.
If childbirth frightens you or gives you anxiety, it is a good idea to talk about it at the maternity and child health clinic. If necessary, we can write you a referral to the outpatient clinic for pregnant people with fear of childbirth at the maternity hospital.
