Your local health station is responsible for the follow-up care of gestational diabetes. You can find your health station at hel.fi/healthstations
Having gestational diabetes significantly increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Because of this risk, you should regularly monitor:
- your weight
- your waist measurement
- your blood pressure.
You should also have blood tests to monitor various blood values.
How to start monitoring
If you have had gestational diabetes:
- Contact your health centre roughly a year after giving birth by Maisa message. If you are unable to use Maisa for some reason, you can also contact the health centre by phone.
- Going forward, follow-up monitoring will be carried out every 1–3 years, depending on individual risk factors.
How to contact us
Contact your team at your health centre via the Maisa service and tell them in your message that you need follow-up monitoring for gestational diabetes. Our professionals process contact requests on weekdays from 8.00 to 16.00, and we will reply to your message within two weekdays.
How to send a Maisa message:
- Open the ‘Messages’ section.
- Select ‘Send new message’.
- Click ‘Send a message about care or services’.
- Select the subject of the message and your health centre as the recipient.
Go to Maisa (Link leads to external service)
Logging in to Maisa requires strong identification (online bank credentials, mobile certificate, electronic ID card).
Every health station has its own telephone number, which you can find on the health station’s website.
Telephone service hours:
- Mon–Thu 8.00–16.00
- Fri and the day before national holidays 8.00–15.00
If the telephone service is congested, submit a callback request. We will aim to call you back within the same day. If you submit your callback request in the afternoon, the call may be postponed to the next day. We may call you back Mon–Sun between 8.00 and 16.00.
You can easily take care of the follow-up monitoring in Maisa:
- Contact your health centre by Maisa message to access the monitoring service.
- When the monitoring service is activated, you will automatically receive tasks in Maisa.
- Tasks are displayed on the Maisa homepage and on the Task list.
- You can find your laboratory referrals under ‘Upcoming examinations and procedures’.
If you are unable to use Maisa, follow-up monitoring can also be organised by other means.
In this case, contact your health centre by phone.
