Gestational diabetes follow-ups

If you have had gestational diabetes, regular follow-ups are recommended. Contact your local health station one year after giving birth. In future, you will have follow-ups every one to three years, depending on what risk factors you have. Please use a Maisa message to contact us about the follow-ups.

Gestational diabetes significantly increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes or a cardiovascular disease. Due to the risk, your weight, waist circumference and blood pressure should be regularly monitored and follow-up blood tests should be taken.

The follow-up of gestational diabetes can be carried out through Maisa, in which case you will automatically receive tasks via Maisa to complete the follow-ups. To join the follow-up programme, you need to contact your own health station by sending them a Maisa message. You can send a message in the Viestit (Messages) section of Maisa.

Once the gestational diabetes follow-up programme has been activated by the health station, you will automatically receive the tasks on the Maisa homepage at specified times. You can also find tasks related to the follow-up of gestational diabetes by selecting Tehtävälistä (Task list) from the menu. To view laboratory referrals, select Tulevat tutkimukset ja toimenpiteet (Upcoming examinations and procedures) from the menu.

If you are not able to use Maisa, the follow-ups can also be arranged by other means. In this case, please contact your health station by phone.
