Health care for tourists and undocumented individuals at Helsinki health stations

If you fall ill while visiting Finland or otherwise need health care during your stay, your right to treatment depends on the country where you are covered by health insurance. However, you can always receive urgent medical care regardless of your place of residence, nationality or reason for staying in Finland.

I come from an EU or EEA country, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or Australia

You are entitled to medically necessary treatment with a European Health Insurance Card, passport or official identity document. Medically necessary treatment means treatment that cannot wait until you return home. This may include treatment for a sudden illness or a long-term illness, pregnancy monitoring or childbirth.

I come from a different country

You are entitled to urgent medical care in Finland's public healthcare system. You can also use private healthcare services.

Urgent care means immediate assessment and treatment that cannot be postponed without the illness getting worse or the injury becoming more severe.

In an emergency, call 112.

I am undocumented

Undocumented individuals under the age of 18 and pregnant undocumented individuals are entitled to the same healthcare services as Helsinki residents.

Undocumented adults are entitled to necessary health care in the same way as Helsinki residents.

If you are undocumented and need healthcare services, call or visit the nearest health station.
