Health examinations for pupils

Annual health examinations in school health care are part of preventive health services.

During these check-ups, we assess the overall well-being and health of children and young people and provide vaccinations in line with the national vaccination programme. The examinations also include individual health counselling.

In comprehensive health examinations conducted in grades 1, 5, and 8, students meet both the school nurse and a doctor. These assessments focus not only on the student's well-being, growth, development, and health, but also on the well-being of parents or guardians and the entire family.

Contact and viewing your child´s records

We carry out the health examinations according to the pupil’s grade level regardless of the class type.

Your child’s school nurse will inform you via Wilma when a health examination is due. You will also receive instructions on how to book an appointment.

You can book an appointment for a health examination in Maisa.  You may need an appointment authorisation (appointment ticket) in order to book an appointment.

We prefer to communicate primarily via the Maisa portal. As a parent or guardian, you can also contact us via the Wilma system. Children and young people can interact with us via the Apunappi (‘help button’) digital contact channel in the Aula learning portal. For security reasons, we do not use email.

As a parent or guardian, you can act on behalf of your underage child in Maisa. Log in to Maisa with your personal login credentials and go to your child’s profile using the ‘Switch’ button in the top menu. In Maisa, you can see the notes recorded by school health care services about your child’s visits, subject to certain restrictions.

Pupils in grades 7–9 who attend a school in Helsinki can send a message to their school nurse via the Aula portal. The Apunappi contact channel can be found under the Nutti squirrel icon on school computers.

The pupil sends the message on a secure form, and a professional will reply within 1–5 days.

School nurses carry out health examinations at the school and are unable to answer the phone while attending to a pupil. If you cannot contact the school nurse via Maisa or Wilma, please contact the school nurse primarily by text message.

You can find the phone numbers of the school nurses on your school’s website.
