The Auroranmäki special care unit provides special care, as defined in the Child Welfare Act, for young people aged 13-17 whose situation requires strong multidisciplinary support and a safe, rehabilitative environment. Our unit consists of two wards, Nova and Luna, which have a total of eight client places.
Helsinki is responsible for organising special care within the regional cooperation area of Southern Finland, and in future, the service can also be used by other wellbeing services counties. Clients from across the entire southern cooperation area can be admitted to the Auroranmäki special care unit.
Our operations are based on individually planned treatment, education and care. A young person's daily life is supported by a clear daily rhythm, safe relationships, goal-oriented rehabilitation and a strong adult presence. The work draws on individual, group-based and functional methods, as well as close multidisciplinary cooperation.
We employ social and healthcare professionals, and a multidisciplinary care team is put together to support each young person. We cooperate actively with families, loved ones, social workers, healthcare professionals and the other networks of the young person. The participation of the families is considered to be an important part of rehabilitation and the work towards change.
The Sophie Mannerheim School operates in connection with our unit, enabling young people to attend school and study as part of their rehabilitation process.
