Contraception and sexual health services in student health care

The nurse at your educational institution will offer guidance and advice regarding sexual health matters and assist you in selecting the most suitable contraceptive for your needs.

If you are under the age of 25, the student health care will provide you with contraceptive pills and intravaginal rings for one year.

During your first contraceptive-related appointment, we will conduct an interview to determine the most appropriate free contraceptive option for you, which will be provided for a three-month period. Additionally, we will offer guidance and advice on sexual health. If the chosen contraceptive is suitable, you will receive it from us for a period of nine months. In the event that you are unable to find a suitable contraceptive or wish to explore alternative options such as a contraceptive coil or implant, we will refer you to a health station or the centralised contraceptive counselling service offered by the City of Helsinki.
