Work activities and employment support activities for people with disabilities are intended for Helsinki residents aged 18-65 who, due to a disability, illness or other reasons, need specialised support for employment or work activities to maintain their functional capacity.You have to receive disability pension or rehabilitation support to access these services.
Work activities are conducted at various locations, including City of Helsinki's own work centres, non-institutional work activity locations, and external units selected by the city. Participants in these activities receive a work activity allowance.
To apply for work activities, please schedule an appointment at the Social Rehabilitation service point.
The service is free of charge to the client.

By calling the appointment booking number for new clients, you can book an appointment for work activities for people with disabilities. The number cannot be used to book an appointment for disability services or rehabilitative work activities.

You can apply for work activities by booking an appointment at the Social Rehabilitation team’s service point.
If you want to know whether work activities are suitable for you, talk to your social worker. You can also contact the Social Rehabilitation team’s service point and book an appointment to discuss the matter.

We offer many types of work, such as cleaning, cooking, manual skill-based tasks and environmental work. The work can take place either at work centres or within non-institutional work activity groups. Activities are also organised in external units selected by the city.
In Helsinki, there are three dedicated work centres: Uusix Workshop in Suvilahti, Uusix Workshop in Kyläsaari, and Pakila Work Centre.
Within the non-institutional work activities, there are three distinct teams: the building and property team, the nature and environment team, and the home care team.

The work activities can last for months or years, depending on your resources.
You can participate in work activities on 1–5 days a week and the duration of your working day is 4–6 hours.
During work activities, you are entitled to receive a disability pension, rehabilitation support or income support as usual. You will also receive work activity allowance for your participation.
During the work activities, you will continue to receive your usual disability pension, rehabilitation allowance or basic social assistance. In addition, you will receive a work activity allowance of EUR 9 or 12 per day, depending on the length of your work activity day, as well as an HSL travel card and coffee.
We provide you with a variety of guidance and support throughout your work activities. Support measures include:

guidance in the use of health and rehabilitation services and in applying for social security benefits

job coaching and support in finding employment.
