The Helsinki Transport Service is experiencing a backlog in the processing of travel orders due to the introduction of a new transport service system.

Check the instructions on what to do if you have to queue for customer service by phone for over 15 minutes or if your transport is more than 15 minutes late.

Transport service

You can apply for transport services if you are unable to use public transport because of a disability or illness.

Our transport services are intended for Helsinki residents with a disability for whom using public transport is unreasonably difficult. We grant support for your commute to work or studies and travelling for errands and leisure activities. We do not grant support for health care-related trips, as Kela reimburses visits to doctors and examinations on the basis of health insurance.

You can apply for transport services by filling in the transport service application form. You need a medical certificate to accompany your application, in which your doctor has assessed your need for support.

Send your application to a transport service social instructor employed at a service point of Social Work for People with Disabilities in your area of residence.

We will assess your situation and decide on the service. If you receive a positive decision, you will receive a payment card, which allows you to travel, as a rule, in Helsinki and nearby municipalities by taxi. You only make a copayment for the trips.

You can ask about the payment cards and our services from our office secretaries Mon-Fri 8.15-16.00 by calling +358 9 310 23100.

If the transport service has been granted to you, you are also entitled to transport services elsewhere in Finland. You must apply for the right to travel well in advance from a transport service social instructor. Your application must indicate how long and where you will be staying and how long the trips will be.

The payment card cannot be used outside the Helsinki Transport Service area. Trips will be reimbursed against receipts that include the necessary information. A copayment will be deducted from the compensation amount.
