Hietaniemenkatu Service Centre aka Hietsu

We provide services for individuals without housing, including meal and hygiene services, health and social services, as well as emergency housing.

Many of our services are offered free of charge and are available to individuals regardless of whether they are staying at the emergency housing service location.

It's important to note that intoxication does not prevent you from accessing our services.

Our services 

The Service Centre is open every day, all year round.

The Hietsun Herkku restaurant serves affordable lunches and dinners. The restaurant is open every day from 7.30 to 18.00.

If you are staying overnight in emergency housing, you are entitled to a free breakfast.

Meal times:

  • breakfast 7.30–9.30
    • Breakfast is free of charge if you are staying overnight in emergency housing.
  • lunch 11.00–13.00
    • Lunch costs €1.20.
  • dinner 16.15–17.30
    • Dinner costs €1.20.

You can use the sauna and showers at the Service Centre every day. The sauna is heated from 7.30 to 13.00.

You can have the clothes that you are wearing washed for free in the laundry room. The laundry room is open every day from 7.30 to 13.00.

If you are in need of clothes, you can ask for some in the laundry room.

If you are worried about your health, you can see a nurse without an appointment. If you need to see a doctor, the nurse will book an appointment for you.

  • The nurses are available weekdays from 8.30 to 12.00.

You can also see a social instructor without an appointment.

The social instructor can help you if you need assistance with the following matters:

  • looking for housing
  • applying for benefits
  • accessing services.
  • The social instructors are available weekdays from 8.00 to 11.00.

At Hietaniemenkatu Service Centre, you can also see a dental assistant, a foot therapist or a church social worker, for example. Please note that they are not at the service centre every day.

If you need a place to sleep, you are welcome to come and stay with us. This service is called emergency housing. If we do not have any beds available, we will direct you to one of our other service locations.

Please register for emergency housing between 9.00 and 16.00 by calling the number +358 9 310 46628(Link starts a phone call). Alternatively, you can also register at the Service Centre.

You can ask about available beds between 17.00 and 03.00. You must vacate the emergency housing premises by 9.00 in the morning.

In emergency housing, you will be sleeping in a room with other people. Everyone has their own bed. You can store your belongings in a small locker.

You can stay with us overnight for free. You can also come to us while intoxicated.

If you are in need of a temporary place to stay, you can apply for a single room. Our temporary housing is subject to a fee. The fee amount depends on your income. However, the fee is capped at €14.60 per day.

  • The pick-up and drop-off area is located in the vicinity of the entrance, giving easy access to the pavement.
  • The route to the entrance is smooth and sufficiently wide and illuminated.
  • There is a steep slope on the passage.

  • The entrance stands out clearly and is illuminated. There is a canopy above the entrance.
  • In connection with the entrance, there is 1 step.
  • The entrance has a ramp under 6 meters long, with handrails on both sides.
  • The doors connected to the entrance stand out clearly and the glass doors have contrast markings. Outside the door there is sufficient room for moving e.g. with a wheelchair. The door requires the use of a buzzer, opening easily manually. The buzzer has a light signal.

The entrance "alternative entrance"

  • The main entrance parking spaces may be used for this entrance as well.
  • The entrance stands out clearly and is illuminated. There is a canopy above the entrance.
  • The doors connected to the entrance stand out clearly and the glass doors have contrast markings. Outside the door there is sufficient room for moving e.g. with a wheelchair. The door requires the use of a buzzer, opening easily manually. The buzzer has a light signal.

In the facility

  • The customer service point has 5 floors.
  • For moving around, there is a lift, which can hold a wheelchair; the door opens automatically. The floor numbers in the lift can be felt with fingers. The button for the exit floor stands out from the other buttons. (The minimum dimensions for an accessible lift are width 1.1 m and depth 1.4 m.)
  • The doors in the facility stand out clearly. The glass doors have contrast markings.
  • The facility has an accessible toilet on floor 1.
  • There is a second accessible toilet on floor 2.
  • There is a third accessible toilet on floor 3.
