Emergency housing

Emergency housing refers to short-term accommodations typically lasting one night.

We provide emergency housing services to single individuals and childless couples residing in Helsinki. These services are available at the Hietaniemenkatu Service Centre's emergency housing service, as well as at the emergency housing facilities on Lauttasaari. Emergency housing is intended for one night.

To access emergency housing, you can contact the Hietaniemenkatu Service Centre by phone or visit us in person at Hietaniemenkatu 5 B.

All our emergency housing locations are open 17.00-9.00. The overnight stay is free of charge and includes breakfast.

For undocumented migrants, emergency housing services are provided at Inarintie. You can seek assistance by visiting our Special Services for Immigrants Unit at the Kalasatama Health and Well-being Centre on weekdays from 9.00-16.00. If you get lost on your way, the reception desk staff on the first floor is ready to help you. In urgent cases during evenings after 20.00 or weekends, you can contact the Inarintie staff directly to inquire about available beds. The address is Inarintie 8, Helsinki.

Additional information about accessing emergency housing

Here, you can stay for one night at a time in a shared room. It's important to note that being intoxicated does not prevent you from accessing emergency housing. However, you should be capable of taking care of yourself, including being able to move around and attend to personal hygiene independently. 

 

  1. You can book an emergency housing place on Hietaniemenkatu by calling or visiting us in advance

    If you have booked a place in advance, you must arrive between 17.00–20.00.

  2. You can also come to stay overnight on Hietaniemenkatu without booking a place 

    You can also get an emergency housing place just by showing up. The Hietaniemenkatu Service Centre accepts overnight visitors between 17.00–3.00.

    You must leave the emergency housing premises by 9.00. The overnight stay is free of charge and includes breakfast.

The Lauttasaari emergency housing is specifically designed for unhoused individuals. It's important to note that being intoxicated does not prevent you from accessing emergency housing. However, you should be capable of taking care of yourself, including being able to move around and attend to personal hygiene independently.

    You can reach us either by phone or by visiting our Hietaniemenkatu location.

  2. Arriving at the emergency housing on Lauttasaari

    From the Hietaniemenkatu Service Centre, you are steered to the emergency housing on Lauttasaari. The Lauttasaari location is open 17.00–9.00. The address is Lahnalahdentie 7, 00200 Helsinki.

    The overnight stay is free of charge and includes breakfast. 

Emergency housing services for undocumented migrants are located on Inarintie.   

  1. The emergency housing on Inarintie is accessed through Special Services for Immigrants 

    Seek emergency housing by visiting the Special Services for Immigrants Unit Mon–Fri 9.00–16.00. The service is located at the Kalasatama Health and Well-being Centre at Työpajankatu 14 A. The reception desk staff on the first floor is ready to help you find your way.

  2. In the evenings or during weekends, you can ask about bed availability directly from the emergency housing on Inarintie 

    In urgent cases, in the evenings after 20.00 or during weekends, contact the Inarintie staff directly and ask if they have an available bed. The address is Inarintie 8.
