What can you experience in Roihuvuori Cherry Park and Japan-inspired garden?

You can visit two parks in one go. They are located in the same area, close to each other.

Cherry Park

The city’s largest sea of pink cherry blossoms can be found in Roihuvuori Cherry Park. The first ornamental cherry trees in the park were donated by Japanese people living in Finland and planted on the sunny slope next to the water tower in 2007. Today, the park has well over 200 cherry trees. Most of them are Sargent’s cherries, but there are also other varieties.

The cherry trees bloom in May, prompting visitors to come in droves to the grass fields to admire the blossoms and celebrate the traditional Hanami cherry blossom festival.

Japan-inspired garden

On the other side of the same park is a Japan-inspired garden, almost a hectare in size, which was designed to utilise the site’s natural elements and native vegetation. The park features moss-covered bedrock, pines, rowans and junipers, complemented with other domestic species and Japanese plants suitable for the location.

The Japan-inspired garden also features a variety of structures, including a moon gate, bamboo fences, stone installations and a rocky stream. In spring, ornamental cherries bloom on the hillside of this park as well.

Cherry Park is at its busiest in May, when the traditional Hanami cherry blossom festival is held there. In addition to the beautiful blossoms, visitors get to enjoy a variety of music and dance performances. During flowering, the park is a popular photography location. At other times, the grass field of Cherry Park provides plenty of space for picnics, games and play.

The Japan-inspired garden features peaceful areas for spending leisure time. Both parks are also worth a visit in autumn, as the cherry trees are beautiful in their autumn foliage as well.
