We are located on the second floor of the Itäkeskus Service Home. We offer assisted living for those of you who need 24-hour care and support in your daily lives. It is important for us that you can live a safe and peaceful life of your own preferences, in accordance with your own wishes and ways.

How can you move in with us, and how much does it cost?
You can move in with us following an assessment of your service needs. Find out more about how to apply for housing services for the elderly.
24-hour service housing covers the care and treatment you need, activities that support your functional capacity, services related to meals, laundry and clothes care, washing and cleaning, as well as services that promote participation and social interaction.
You pay rent as well as a monthly fee based on your net income, to cover the services included in the 24-hour service housing.

What is it like to live at the Voikukka Group Home?
We try to ensure that you can live a good everyday life of your own preferences. Your daily life is shaped according to your wishes and your daily routine. It is important to us that you can start your day at your own pace: you can enjoy breakfast when it feels natural for you.
We aim to create an environment with a peaceful, safe and cosy atmosphere. We want everyone to feel that they are an important part of the community just as they are. We respect your privacy and your right of self-determination. You can participate in our joint activities whenever it suits you, or spend time by yourself.
Facilities and accessibility
The Voikukka Group Home is located in accessible facilities on the second floor of the Itäkeskus Service Home.
The facilities of the group home are cosy and designed to support a safe everyday life. When you need time for yourself and rest, you can go to your own room. You can also spend time with others in Ruiskukka’s common areas.
Your room – your home
At Voikukka, you will have your own room and bathroom. We also have twin rooms, where you share the room with another resident.
Your room is your home. You can furnish your room with your own furniture, textiles and important belongings that bring you joy. However, please note the size of the room and the need for accessibility, in order to ensure a comfortable and safe everyday life.
Houseplants and flowers can make a room feel more like a home, but looking after them is your responsibility, or that of your loved ones.
Common areas
We have shared lounges where you can spend time with the other residents and your loved ones. We also have a spacious shared sauna with a washroom, which can be heated on request.
There are more shared lounges on the first floor of the service home. If you wish to book the common areas on the first floor of the service home for a birthday party, for example, please arrange this in advance with the group home supervisor.
Meals
For service housing residents (the A wing), all meals except for the evening meal are served at the Itätuuli Restaurant on the first floor. You can also enjoy your meal in your own room or the common areas of the group home. Residents of the group home for those with memory disorders in the B wing will enjoy their meals in the common dining area with the others or in their own room. We take your meal preferences and your individual needs into consideration.
You can also enjoy lunch or dinner at the Itätuuli Restaurant together with your loved ones. The restaurant is open every day 8.00–17.30 (lunch 11-13). Find the lunch menu here(Link leads to external service)

Garden and local environment
The yard of the Itäkeskus Service Home is peaceful and uncluttered. Our verdant back yard allows you to spend time in a natural environment, enjoy the outdoors, and observe your surroundings. The front yard also offers a view of the daily life of the daycare centre next door, which brings liveliness and joy to the yard.
You can visit the Itäkeskus shopping centre nearby for coffee, a meal, shopping, or a movie. The events at Cultural Centre Stoa and Itäkeskus Library are also within walking distance. The public transport connections to many parts of Helsinki are good.
Being outdoors and the natural environment support your wellbeing and give meaning to your everyday life.
What is everyday life like with us?
Our days consist of plenty of spending time together, calm conversations, small happy moments, and spending time outdoors and enjoying nature.
We organise many kinds of shared activities at the Itäkeskus Service Home every week. You can participate in planning the activities by participating in the monthly community meetings. A printed copy of the programme is posted in the living room of the group home, as well as the notice boards in the lobby. You can also have your own copy if you wish. You can decide for yourself which activities you’d like to participate in.
A hairdresser and podiatrist visit us regularly. The Voikukka staff can make an appointment according to your needs and wishes.
Information for family members and loved ones
Your loved ones can visit you at Voikukka at their convenience. Pets are also welcome, but please remember to let the staff know of pet visits in advance.
The Itäkeskus Service Home is easily accessible by public transport. The walk from the Itäkeskus metro station is less than a kilometre, and many buses have their stops on Kauppakartanonkatu next to the service home. The service home has some marked and time-restricted parking spaces on the parking area in front of the building. You can ask our building managers for a temporary parking permit. There are also a few paid parking spaces along the street. We recommend using public transport.
You can spend time with your loved ones in your room or in the common areas. Your family and friends are also warmly welcome to our shared events. You can also visit your home or go on a recreational trip. Please remember to let us know if you are going outside the group home, so that our staff is aware of where you are and may assist you in getting dressed or using any assistive devices you may have.
There is a fridge in our common kitchen, where you can leave snacks which require cold storage. Please label anything you bring with your name. You can also make coffee and tea in the group home’s kitchen. Our staff is happy to help you if necessary.

- Your appointed nurse is responsible for your overall everyday life and is there to support you.
- Practical nurses, nurses and care assistants ensure your day-to-day care and wellbeing.
- Physiotherapists will support you with issues related to your functional capacity, mobility and assistive devices.
- Your doctor is responsible for your medical care.
- A social instructor can help you with matters related to services and life circumstances.
- A culture instructor enables including art and culture as part of your everyday life.
