Regional Management of Safety in Tourism project
One part of responsible and sustainable tourism is safety and its consideration from different perspectives throughout the travel chain. Helsinki built its own operating model for safety management in tourism in 2021. In the project, Helsinki, in cooperation with Ramboll, created a handbook for safety in tourism, Compass, which provides a comprehensive range of safety information and guidance for tourism industry operators. Together with an extensive network of partners, the project also created a model and action plan for regional management of safety in tourism. Sustainable Growth for Tourism: Southern Finland project
The City of Helsinki coordinated the The Sustainable Growth for Tourism: Southern Finland project, which supported the recovery and competitiveness of tourism industry SMEs by developing new tourism products for the international market.
The project had two mutually reinforcing core objectives: It supported the recovery and competitiveness of SMEs in the tourism, restaurant and event sectors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic by developing new tourism products for international target groups and supporting their market introduction using digital tools. It also promoted the sustainability of businesses and in particular a reduction in the carbon footprint while also creating a competitive advantage out of these.
The project was funded via the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council and the Regional Council of Southwest Finland by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Union’s COVID-19 recovery measures for 2021–2023. The project partners were the City of Helsinki (coordinator), Forum Virium Helsinki, Enter Espoo and Turku Science Park.
All the project's materials are available on the Finnish site.
