If your company handles food of animal origin in the food premises before delivery to retail, you must apply for approval from the City's Food Safety Unit. Please contact the Food Safety Unit in good time when you are planning to start industrial operations. You must have the operations approved before you can start them. The Food Safety Unit makes a decision on the approval of the food premises within 60 days of the initiation of the matter, unless the scope of the matter, missing information in the application or some other special reason requires a longer processing time. The authority may set conditions in its decision to prevent hazards.

Fill in the application form either as a Word file or a PDF file and send it by e-mail to helsinki.kirjaamo@hel.fi. Please present your company's own-check plan when you submit the application. Own-check refers to the systematic and continuous monitoring of food operations by the operator itself. It ensures that food is safe and meets the requirements laid down in foodstuff regulations.
