The Syystie Service Housing Unit is located on the first to fourth floors of stairwell A of the Syystie Senior Centre. We provide 24-hour service housing for people who are no longer capable of coping at home either due to a decreased functional capacity or a memory disorder. Communal housing can be a good alternative when you are no longer capable of coping at home due to unsafety or loneliness, but do not yet require around-the-clock care.

How can you move in with us, and how much does it cost?

Communal housing refers to living in an apartment provided by the City of Helsinki. You pay rent for your apartment, and you can also arrange for separately charged services to be provided in your home, such as a meal service or medication-related services.

24-hour service housing means that you live in a room in a senior centre or a service home. Your housing covers the care and treatment you need, activities that support your functional capacity, services related to meals, laundry and clothes care, washing and cleaning, as well as services that promote participation and social interaction. You will pay rent for your apartment and a monthly fee based on your net income for the services included in the 24-hour care.

What is it like to live in the Syystie Service Housing Unit?
Here, you can live your daily life in your own way. You can also participate in the communal activities of the senior centre, including the exercise and culture activities.We respect your privacy and your right of self-determination. You are always welcome to our communal activities, but you can just as well spend time by yourself when it feels like a better alternative. Our staff are present around the clock.
Facilities and accessibility
We are located in accessible facilities on the first to fourth floors of stairwell A of the Syystie Senior Centre.
- The building has two lifts.
- Moving between the areas is easy.
- The yard is peaceful and uncluttered.
The facilities support a safe and smooth daily life.
Your room – your home
You will have your own room with its own bathroom. The rooms also have a small kitchen space. In two-room apartments, you may share the kitchen and bathroom with another resident.
The room is your home, and you can decorate it with your own furniture, textiles and important belongings. This makes the environment feel familiar and safe.
Common areas
The restaurant and other common areas allow you to:
- spend time with the other residents
- participate in joint activities
- meet your loved ones
Your loved ones are also welcome to use the common areas.
Meals
You can enjoy your meals in the common dining area with the others. We take your meal preferences and your individual needs into consideration.
Garden and local environment
You can spend time outdoors in the garden and the surrounding area.
Nearby you’ll find:
- parks and recreational trails
- shops and other services
- good public transport connections
Being outdoors and the natural environment support your wellbeing and give meaning to your everyday life.
What is everyday life like with us?
Your daily life is shaped according to your own daily routine. The day includes:
- basic care and support
- moments of rest and time to yourself
- opportunities to participate in joint activities
We organise many kinds of activities and outdoor activities. You can decide for yourself which activities you’d like to participate in. A printed copy of the weekly programme is always available on the notice board of your floor.
Information for family members and loved ones
Your loved ones can visit you at their convenience. We are well served by public transport. We don’t have our own parking spaces, but there are some paid parking spaces along the street.
Guests can:
- spend time with you in your room or in the common areas
- bring snacks and enjoy them with you
- visit the Onni restaurant downstairs with you. The restaurant is open on weekdays at 8.00–17.00 (lunch 11–13). You can find the lunchmenu here(Link leads to external service)
- bring a pet along, but please arrange this with the staff in advance
Your loved ones can also take you out for a walk or to visit friends and family. Please let the staff know, either in advance or when you leave.

Our multi-disciplinary team supports your everyday life.
- Your appointed nurse will be by your side and take care of all your day-to-day needs.
- Practical nurses and nurses ensure your day-to-day care and wellbeing.
- Your doctor is responsible for your medical care.
- A social instructor can help you with matters related to services and life circumstances.
