Discount for low-emission cars

The City of Helsinki grants low-emission vehicles a 50 per cent discount on parking fees for designated street parking.

In order to take advantage of the discount, you must pay for your parking via a mobile app. You can receive the discount even if you do not live in Helsinki.

A similar discount is available for resident and business parking permits. If more than one vehicle is included in a parking permit, they must all meet the criteria for low-emission vehicles.

How to apply for a discount for a low-emission vehicle

  1. Check that your vehicle meets the criteria for a low-emission vehicle, as described below.
  2. Send the Urban Environment Division’s customer service an email with your contact details and license plate number. You can also visit our service location with this information.

Once we have approved your application, we will forward your license plate number to the mobile app operators. After this, you will receive the discount automatically when you pay for your parking with a mobile app.

The following low-emission vehicles are eligible for a parking fee discount:

  • all-electric cars

  • all-electric L-category vehicles

  • petrol cars (including hybrids), if they meet at least the criteria of the Euro 6 standard and their carbon dioxide emissions are no more than 95 g/km in NEDC tests or no more than 126 g/km in WLTP tests

  • diesel cars (including hybrids), if they meet at least the criteria of the Euro 6 standard and their carbon dioxide emissions are no more than 50 g/km in NEDC tests or no more than 70 g/km in WLTP tests

  • bi-fuel cars (natural gas vehicles), if they meet at least the criteria of the Euro 6 standard and their carbon dioxide emissions are no more than 150 g/km in NEDC tests or no more than 180 g/km in WLTP tests.

City officials monitor emissions criteria regularly.
