The City of Helsinki grants low-emission vehicles a 50 per cent discount on parking fees for designated street parking.
In order to take advantage of the discount, you must pay for your parking via a mobile app. You can receive the discount even if you do not live in Helsinki.
A similar discount is available for resident and business parking permits. If more than one vehicle is included in a parking permit, they must all meet the criteria for low-emission vehicles.
How to apply for a discount for a low-emission vehicle
- Check that your vehicle meets the criteria for a low-emission vehicle, as described below.
Send the Urban Environment Division’s customer service an email with your contact details and license plate number. You can also visit our service location with this information.
Once we have approved your application, we will forward your license plate number to the mobile app operators. After this, you will receive the discount automatically when you pay for your parking with a mobile app.
The following low-emission vehicles are eligible for a parking fee discount:
- The CO2 emissions of low-emission cars and vans (incl. hybrids) may not exceed 50 g/km in WLTP tests and 37 g/km in NEDC tests, and they must meet at least the criteria of the Euro 6 standard.
- In order to meet the CO2 emissions criteria, it is sufficient that a vehicle’s emissions value meets the above-mentioned limits in at least one of the emissions tests.
- All all-electric L-category vehicles (motorcycles, mopeds, three and four-wheeled scooters and motorised quadricycles) are low-emission vehicles.
The parking benefit of vehicles leaving the parking benefit system as a result of this criteria revision remains valid until the end of 2022.
City officials monitor emissions criteria every two years.
