Helsinki Metropolitan Area libraries

The libraries in the Helsinki Metropolitan area are hubs of information and stories open to all, where you can borrow books, magazines, films, music material, sports equipment and e-resources. You can enjoy them free-of-charge either in the comfortable library premises or by borrowing material and taking it home. The libraries also have customer computers and premises that can be reserved for an event or function.
You can get a library card at any Helmet library. The Helmet library card is a joint card for the city libraries of Espoo, Helsinki, Kauniainen and Vantaa. You can borrow, reserve and return materials from the collections of libraries of all these cities as well as your own local library.

Events and recreational groups

Libraries organise a variety of free events, such as author visits, lectures and even karaoke. In addition to one-off events, open recreational groups for people of all ages regularly meet at libraries. You may find in your local library, for example, body maintenance classes for seniors or knitting while listening to someone reading short stories.

You can search for events in your local library in the event calendar on the Helmet.fi website.

Digital support at the library

Do you need help with the use of various devices, software and online services?

Digital support is available at the library by asking the staff for help or at separately organised events. All libraries provide digital support.

Accessing a computer at the library

You can work and take care of matters on library customer computers, where you will have at your disposal the most common computer programs as well as a scanner and printer. Reserve a library computer at the library or online. If you need help using the computer, the library staff will be happy to help you.

You can also work at the library on your own laptop or mobile device. All libraries have an open and free wireless network.
