Mayor’s residents’ evenings

Do you feel your residential area and services are moving in in the right direction? What do you think about how your district has been developed? Mayor’s residents’ evenings are a forum for neighbourhood residents and representatives of the city to meet and have a dialogue about current topics in the district in question.

The evenings follow safe-space principles that create a respectful and inclusive atmosphere that is free of discrimination, harassment and violence. 

Various resident associations and public interest organisations in the district act as collaborative partners in organising the event.

An invitation is sent out in the post to each of the residents in the area, and a video summary of the evening is available for viewing online on the Helsinki Channel shortly after the event.

No advance registration is required.

Everyone that has received an invitation is welcome to participate.

Residents can submit comments and questions in advance through a Voice your Opinion -service.

Mayor’s residents’ evening to be held in Pitäjänmäki on 5 November

The Mayor’s residents’ evening will include discussions on the current issues in Pitäjänmäki and the area’s future. The event offers residents an opportunity to ask questions, put forward views and discuss matters directly with City management.

The residents’ evening will be held at Strömberg Primary School (Takomotie 13) on Thursday 5 November 2026 from 18.00 to 19.30.

“Pitäjänmäki is a wonderful and versatile neighbourhood that is developing rapidly right now. Thanks to the Jokeri Light Rail, the West-Helsinki Light Rail and the new local master plan being prepared for the area, Pitäjänmäki is currently at the centre of plenty of development and attention. That is why it is fantastic and important to have the chance to meet local residents and discuss the services, development and smooth running of daily life in Pitäjänmäki,” Mayor Daniel Sazonov says.

Residents can take part in the discussion even before the event via a Kerrokantasi survey(Link leads to external service). You can use this survey to share your thoughts, ideas, comments and questions regarding the development of Pitäjänmäki. The survey will be open until 16.00 on 29 October 2026.

Discussing the future of Pitäjänmäki

Borough Liaison Laura Päiväpuro for the western major district, who also serves as the borough liaison for Pitäjänmäki, will be attending the residents’ evening.
“There are several development projects currently underway in Pitäjänmäki that will impact the area both now and in the future. The Mayor’s residents’ evening offers a great opportunity for residents to discuss the area and put forward their own views directly to City management," Borough Liaison Päiväpuro says.

Borough liaisons help residents of Helsinki to participate in the development of their residential area by supporting dialogue between residents, communities and the City.

Residents’ views to serve as basis for City development

The Mayor’s residents’ evenings continue the tradition of the ‘Helsinki Hours’ events that dates back several decades, offering residents the opportunity to discuss the development of their own neighbourhood with the City’s management.

Mayor Sazonov’s term of office will see more residents’ evenings than before. The aim is to visit all of Helsinki’s major districts and hear residents’ experiences, views and suggestions for improvement from across the city.

The event is being organised in partnership with local residents’ associations and other non-profit organisations.

“We hope for a good turnout at the event, as planning for the future development of Pitäjänmäki is just getting under way,” says Chair Peter Saramo from the Pitäjänmäki-seura association.
