Sustainable development

The City of Helsinki is active in pursuing sustainable development. This means that we invests in ecological, social and economic well-being and reinforce equality, non-discrimination and participation opportunities for its residents. Helsinki aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, and we are implementing the necessary changes to adapt to the changing climate and current energy situation.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

From a global perspective, Helsinki is making substantial progress in sustainable development. The implementation of many of the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals is well underway. Helsinki was the first city in Europe to commit to voluntarily reporting its progress towards the achievement of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
