New multipurpose building in Suutarila

A project is beginning in Suutarila to demolish the existing multipurpose building (built in 1981) at Seulastentie 11 and replace it with a new multipurpose building.

The new Suutarila multipurpose building will house the Suutarila Comprehensive School, which will combine the current Suutarinkylä Comprehensive School and Suutarila Primary School, as well as the Seulanen and Vaskiniitty Daycare Centres. The building will also include a library and a youth centre.

The building will provide facilities for 708 comprehensive school pupils and 224 daycare children. The library and youth centre spaces will accommodate 250 to 700 daily visitors or users.

The dental clinic currently located in the existing multipurpose building will not move into the new building. Instead, it will continue operating in temporary facilities until approximately 2030, after which the oral healthcare services will relocate to the new Malmi Family Centre and Health and Well-being Centre being constructed in Malmi.

Leisure services and a local living room

The Suutarila Library and Youth Centre will provide bright and more functional leisure, activity and work spaces for local residents.

Suutarila Library is an easy and comfortable multipurpose space that offers quiet work stations, experiential areas for children and families, and flexible multipurpose spaces for events and community activities – also during self-service hours. The new facilities will improve the provision of services and availability of meeting places in the area, and make the multipurpose centre a vibrant, open and shared hub for the whole of Suutarila.

In the youth centre, young people aged 9–18 will find a relaxed and safe living room where they can hang out, play, exercise, cook and have fun together. The activities will be planned and implemented together with young people. The facilities will also serve the area's hobby operators, organisations and communities with a wide range of sports and cultural opportunities.

Environmentally friendly construction solutions

The project will emphasise sustainable development and responsible solutions, both in the choice of materials and the building’s operation. Materials from the demolition of the old multipurpose building will be recycled and reused in the new construction. The building will also feature renewable energy production through solar panels and a heat pump.

Project timeline

The demolition of the old building will begin in March 2025, followed by the construction of the new multipurpose building, which is expected to start in summer 2025. The building is scheduled to be completed by autumn 2027.

The contractor for both the demolition and construction phases is SRV, which will implement the project as a life-cycle project. This means SRV will be responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the property for 20 years after its completion.
