The third floor of the Myllypuro Health and Wellbeing Centre is bustling during the ongoing influenza and COVID-19 vaccination weeks.
These autumn vaccination weeks at health stations are a demanding annual project that requires extra helping hands. This autumn, around 20 public health nurses and registered nurses from Myllypuro Health Station staff are giving the vaccinations.
One of them is public health nurse Mari Kivistö. She says the vaccination weeks bring a welcome change to her daily work.
– We have a wonderful work community, and our lovely colleagues work really well together. It has been a joy to administer vaccinations with them, Mari says.
Nurses administering vaccinations meet many people every day
In Myllypuro, influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations are given by appointment on weekdays, from early morning until late afternoon.
Mari’s mornings start with preparing the vaccination point. The pharmacists at the health station also begin their day early, preparing the COVID-19 vaccines for the nurses.
Three or four nurses work at the vaccination point at the same time, greeting people as they arrive in the lobby.
Although the interaction between staff and clients is brief, Mari considers it important. She says many residents have been pleased with the vaccination arrangements and given positive feedback.
– We’ve received praise for the valuable work we do and for how we manage to keep smiling all day, Mari says.

Vaccination weeks will continue at health stations until 14 November
