Work to improve flood protection measures in Töölönlahti started in autumn 2025 and will continue until autumn 2027. The project involves the construction of a new bridge with flood gates and pumping stations. In addition to this, the retaining walls and waterfront structures in Tokoinranta will be reinforced. At the same time, maintenance work will be carried out in the park area, including the eradication of invasive species such as rugosa rose and false spiraea.
During the summer, a watertight cofferdam will be built in Eläintarhanlahti for the bridge replacement. Drilled piling and work associated with road and park construction will be performed on land areas. The demolition of the old bridge will start in the autumn.
For the duration of the work, the outer track of the railway yard will have to be closed, but this will not affect train services.
The temporary bridge was originally planned to be operational in autumn 2025, but new ground investigations made it necessary to change the plans. As a result, the opening of the temporary bridge was delayed.
Tokoinranta dog park also to be affected by the works
The Tokoinranta dog park will be in use during construction, but it will have to be reduced in size during the works as the southern edge of the park becomes a construction site.
There will be occasional noise from construction in the surrounding area.
The contractor is Rajukivi Oy.
