Some of Heka’s subsidised apartments can now be found on Oikotie.fi. On there you can find newly built apartments, renovated apartments, artist’s apartments, apartments with workspaces and other apartments that you can apply for separately.

Heka is a city-owned housing company that owns over 50,000 state-subsidised apartments throughout Helsinki. Each year, the City of Helsinki allocates between 3,000 and 4,000 low-rent housing units to applicants showing the greatest need. Heka apartments do not charge security deposit, and leases are generally for an indefinite period.

You can add these apartments to your application by filling out the matching search criteria (maximum rent, location, size of apartment) and selecting “Search for free apartments”. Then add the apartments you want to include on your application. Please note that you can also be offered other apartments that match your search criteria.

Please note that the tenant selection for Heka uses income limits. The income limit also applies to those applicants who are changing apartments inside Heka.

On Oikotie.fi you can also find non-subsidised rental apartments owned by the city of Helsinki. Non-subsidised apartments do not use income or wealth limits in tenant selection. These apartments are located around Helsinki, usually as single apartments in regular housing companies, for example Hitas-buildings. Usually the rental contract for non-subsidised apartments are not fixed-term, so they are also suitable for short term living, for example in case of renovations in your current apartment.

  • Heka does not charge a security deposit from residents.
  • Heka’s lease agreements are valid until further notice. The period of notice of the lease agreements for residents is one calendar month.
  • All new Heka buildings are non-smoking.
  • Each apartment in a new building has its own water meter, and they charge for the water based on consumption.
  • Pets are welcome in Heka apartments and there is no need to report them separately.
  • Heka’s locations have versatile facilities shared by the residents, such as laundry rooms that are free of charge as well as clubrooms and shared saunas.
