Kruunuvuori (lit. ‘crown mountain’) Bridge is an impressive landmark that we can all walk on with crowns on our heads. So dress up as the king, queen, prince or princess of your own life and join us for the opening of the bridge. Everyone is a guest of honour!
“We have far too few opportunities to wear our crowns. Now would be a perfect time to do so,” says Communications Manager Lauri Hänninen from the Crown Bridges Light Rail project.
You can also bring a small flag or another mood-enhancing decorative item or accessory with you when you join the first group of people to experience maritime Helsinki from a whole new perspective.
Activities on the bridge and at both ends of the bridge
The festivities will start at 14.00, when Mayor Daniel Sazonov will declare Kruunuvuori Bridge open by cutting the ribbon at the Korkeasaari end of the bridge. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the bridge will be open to pedestrians from Helsinki. The bridge will also open at the same time at the Laajasalo end, where it will be opened by Deputy Mayor Johanna Laisaari.
The same evening at 17.00, the Helsinki Region Cyclists association (Hepo) and its cooperation partners will celebrate the new Kruunuvuori Bridge with a family bike parade, to which everyone is welcome. The procession will gather on the Koirasaarentie cycle path at the Laajasalo end of the bridge at 16.30 and set out at 17.00. While the procession is moving along the bridges, oncoming traffic will be directed away from the cycle path. The parade will end at Hakaniementori Square. For more information about the procession (in Finnish only), see hepo.fi
The Laajasalo-Degerö Society and Kruunuvuorenranta association will also organise activities in Kruunuvuorenranta, while the Kalasatama residents’ association will do the same at the Kalasatama end of the bridge.
Korkeasaari Zoo will also celebrate the opening of the new bridge connections. On the weekend of 17–19 April, you can enjoy a visit to Korkeasaari Zoo at an admission fee of €10. The zoo will be open from 10.00 to 16.00, with last admission at 15.00. Additionally, the shop in the new entrance building will feature product offers and discounts.
Now is the perfect time to go for a walk or cycle across the bridges from one city district to another!
You can get to the bridge from the city centre by following the directions available on the Korkeasaari Zoo website or from Laajasalo via Kruunuvuorenranta.

New maritime route open to all
Kruunuvuori Bridge is part of the Crown Bridges Light Rail connection, which also includes two other bridges: Merihaka Bridge, which connects Hakaniemi and Nihti, and Finke Bridge, which leads from Nihti to Korkeasaari. Merihaka Bridge was opened to traffic in June 2025, and Finke Bridge has also been open to pedestrians since December 2025. With the opening of Kruunuvuori Bridge on 18 April, cycling will also be allowed on Finke Bridge.
This summer, pedestrian and cycling traffic on Kruunuvuori Bridge may have to be restricted for short periods of time due to the finishing work on the bridge. There will also be test and training runs in the light rail area. Unauthorised access to the light rail area is prohibited.
The aim is to start passenger services on the light rail by early 2027 at the latest. The start date of passenger services will be decided and announced by Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) in due course.
