The temporary library will be located on the second floor of the Ristikko shopping centre. The library will have a total of 236 square metres of space and a limited selection of literature in different languages, as well as newspapers and magazines. In the temporary library, you can borrow and return books, collect book reservations, work on customer computers, copy and print, and read books and magazines.
The library's opening hours are extensive, as you can also use the library on your own in the mornings, evenings and weekends. During self-service hours, the library can be accessed by registered users using a library card and PIN code. You can become a registered user at any Helmet library.
To serve the residents of the Pitäjänmäki area, a new mobile library stop will be established at Konalantie 10. The mobile library will stop there on Wednesdays from 17.45 to 18.30 from August 2026 onwards. The current Konala stop at Ajomiehentie 13 will be closed in the beginning of May.
New library to meet customer needs
Pitäjänmäki will get a new library building to replace the existing one, which is connected to Pitäjänmäki Comprehensive School. In addition to the library, the new building will house school and daycare premises. The construction project will take about three years in total. According to the current plan, Pitäjänmäki Library will move to its new premises in autumn 2029.
"The new library will be built based on the wishes of our customers. It will provide a versatile framework for both working together and relaxing. Our goal is to create a library that serves the needs of as many different types of users as possible," says Deputy Chief Librarian Elina Suikanen.
Reservations during the move
Customers of Pitäjänmäki Library can choose any other Helmet library as the pickup location for their reservations. Reservations can also be frozen during the move, allowing them to retain their place in the reservation queue. Library staff will assist with making changes to reservations if needed.
Reservations destined for pickup at Pitäjänmäki Library will be redirected to Kannelmäki Library from March 31 to April 21.
There will be a pause in reservation deliveries due to the move from April 22 to May 4. After this period, items reserved for Pitäjänmäki Library can be picked up from the temporary premises at Ristikko, until the new Pitäjänmäki Library reopens in autumn 2029.
