The number of administered coronavirus vaccines in Helsinki has increased throughout the beginning of the year.

Helsinki began to intensify and accelerate vaccination before Christmas, and vaccines are now also given in the evenings and on Saturdays. A record number of 57,000 vaccines were given last week.

“Last week we vaccinated more people than ever before during the epidemic. For example, last Saturday, more than 9,600 people were vaccinated at three vaccination stations and four health stations,” says Timo Lukkarinen, Medical Director of Health Stations.

During the 1st week of the year, more than 45,000 coronavirus vaccines were administered in Helsinki, which was more than twice as many as in the week before, when just under 19,000 coronavirus vaccines were administered.

No appointment needed for the 3rd vaccine at two vaccination points starting from Wednesday

Now, it is possible to get a coronavirus vaccine quickly at all the vaccination points of Helsinki. The city has increased the number of vaccination appointments, but it is also possible to get a cancelled appointment for the same day or the next.

“Even if you have a booked vaccination appointment for February, it may pay off to see if there are earlier appointments available. Vaccination appointments became available on a daily basis in the bookcovidvaccine.fi service,” Lukkarinen says.

The previously booked vaccination appointment can be changed by logging in to the service with the user credentials obtained at the time of booking. It may be worth your while to view the available options regularly, as you may be able to get a cancelled appointment for the same day or the next.

Persons aged 12 and older continue to get the first and second vaccine without an appointment at all the vaccination points. Starting from Wednesday, 19 January, persons aged 18 and older do not need an appointment for the 3rd vaccine at the vaccination points of Messukeskus and Jätkäsaari.

The city’s website now contains a chart indicating which age groups are currently being vaccinated, what is the minimum interval between the 2nd and 3rd vaccine in each age group and if an appointment is needed or not. The quickest way to book an appointment is online at bookcovidvaccine.fi(Link leads to external service). You can also book an appointment by calling 09 310 46300. The telephone service is open on weekdays at 8:00–16:00.
