New housing in Puotilanranta

New housing for 2,700 people is being planned in the Puotila marina area. The maritime area includes dense, diverse apartment buildings and a new boat harbour. One of the blocks will be built on an artificial island, the design of which will be the subject of a competition. The Puotilanranta draft plan can be viewed at an online event on 6 March.

The residential area of Puotilanranta is located south of Meripellontie, close to the versatile services of Itäkeskus. The new area complements the urban structure of Marjaniemi, Puotila and Vartioharju.

The plan includes a daycare centre for 180 children in connection with the residential blocks, with space also reserved for brick-and-mortar business premises, three parking facilities and a grocery store.

The recreational areas and green connections will be improved during the development. Puotilanranta gets a lush waterfront park and practical walking and cycling paths. The Puotilanranta section from the Vuosaari bridge to Marjaniemi completes the coastal route around Vartiokylänlahti.

New marina to replace outgoing berths

The Puotila marina currently has approximately 600 berths, more than can be fitted in the area going forward. A new, smaller marina is planned in conjunction with the new waterfront park in the southern part of the Puotilanranta residential area. The area at the tip of Koivuniemi will remain a marina area. Expanding the Vuosaarenlahti marina in the east will also create new berths.

A block on an artificial island

One of the Puotilanranta residential blocks is to be built in an area covered by water and connected to the mainland by bridges. A separate competition will be organised to plan and implement the artificial island.

The later planning stages will examine things like integrating natural values and recreational use, stormwater treatment and the renaturation of the Marjaniemenpuro brook. The Urban Environment Committee will process the draft plan in May 2023. The plan proposal is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2024. According to the preliminary estimate, construction could commence in 2026.
