Linnanmäki amusement park(Link leads to external service) is a popular summer destination for many Finns. VR and 3D glasses are back in use on the Linnunrata and Kammokuja rides after the COVID 19 pandemic. The construction of next year’s new ride, Swingi, has already begun, so Kieputin has been dismantled to make space for it. The height and age limits have been updated for this season, which will continue until the autumn with the iik!week and Carnival of Light events. For rainy days, Linnanmäki is also home to the marine centre, Sea Life.

Escape the heat at Hietsu

Hietsu, officially known as the Hietaranta beach, is practically a summer classic in Helsinki. Helsinki’s most popular beach has lifeguards along the entire beach, and its swimming area is marked with red-yellow flags and buoys. Laguuni(Link leads to external service) will reopen next to the beach on 10 June, offering kayaking and standup paddleboarding, among other things.

See you at the market square

Where else would you buy your delicious summer treats if not at one of the wonderful market squares(Link leads to external service)? Ambience, coffee and tasty treats can be purchased at the main Market Square, Hietalahti Market Square, Töölö Market Square and Hakaniemi Market Square. Remember to watch out for the eager seagulls!

Allas by the Presidential Palace

Allas Sea Pool with its Ferris wheel has already found its dedicated audience. In addition to pools and saunas, you can enjoy gigs and events right in front of the Presidential Palace. You can spend time at the terrace even if you are not planning on swimming and just enjoy watching the busy ferry traffic.

Picnic in the park

Kaivari or Kaivopuisto Park is probably the number one picnic spot along with Suomenlinna. However, there are plenty of other parks in the city centre and elsewhere in the city to suit everyone. Pick your favourite and grab a snack before you go. Remember to pick up your rubbish before you head back!

Enjoy a sauna by the sea

Another seaside sauna can be found in Löyly, a sauna restaurant located in Hernesaari. In addition to sauna and swimming, you can also enjoy various events at Löyly. You also have access to saunas at, for example, Uusi Sauna in Jätkäsaari and in Kulttuurisauna in Hakaniemi – not forgetting the legendary Hermanni and Kotiharju saunas. Public saunas create a certain summer vibe in the city.

+ This summer: Helsinki Biennial on Vallisaari

The Helsinki Biennial(Link leads to external service) showcases approximately 30 artists and groups of artists from Finland and around the world. This year’s event will take place on Vallisaari island and at Helsinki Art Museum (HAM) from 11 June to 17 September.
The artworks of the biennial are located along a route marked on Vallisaari, both outside and in the historical buildings and gunpowder magazines. The length of the route is about three kilometres, and the works are numbered on guide maps along the route. The event itself is free of charge, but the ferry trip to Vallisaari is subject to a fee.
