A person who has recovered from COVID-19 will receive one dose of the vaccine instead of two doses. Studies have shown that one dose of the vaccine to someone who has recovered from COVID-19 provides at least as good protection as two doses for other people. Similarly, if a person who has received one dose of vaccine becomes ill with COVID-19 after the vaccination, the second dose of vaccine will generally no longer be given.
The EU and Finland are currently investigating how the EU Digital COVID Certificate can be issued in a situation in which some who has recovered from COVID-19 has received one dose of vaccine.
“The matter is being clarified in the EU and Finland, and we hope that a quick solution will be found so that people who have received one dose of vaccine and has recovered from COVID-19 more than 6 months previously can also receive an EU COVID-19 certificate. As the matter progresses, we will provide more information,” says Medical Director of health stations Timo Lukkarinen.
A person who has recovered from COVID-19 and has received one dose of vaccine can currently obtain separate certificates for the vaccination and the recovery from the My Kanta pages at kanta.fi(Link leads to external service). The certificates state the dose of vaccine the person has received and the result of a negative COVID-19 test. The certificate of recovery from COVID-19 is valid for six months.
For example, a person who has recovered from COVID-19 may use a single vaccine certificate and / or a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 when traveling.
