Helsinki Welcome Day

The City of Helsinki welcomes new international residents every year with an exciting event!

Every year, new residents who move to Helsinki from abroad receive a special invitation to Helsinki Welcome Day. Later in 2026, there will also be neighbourhood welcome events.

What is Helsinki Welcome Day? 
 

Helsinki Welcome Day is an event for new residents who have recently moved to Helsinki from abroad. At Helsinki Welcome Day, participants will enjoy a diverse programme about living a good life in Helsinki and discover leisure activities in the capital. 

Helsinki Welcome Day will be at Helsinki City Hall on Thursday 4 June 2026. The event is free to attend, but sign-ups will be required.

Personal invitations to Helsinki Welcome Day will be sent out by post in May 2026.

What to expect from Helsinki Welcome Day

Helsinki Welcome Day helps you settle in, feel at home and start building your life in Helsinki.

The day offers a warm welcome to Helsinki and brings together city services, partners and newcomers in an open and friendly atmosphere. The programme typically includes:

  • official welcoming words from the Mayor of Helsinki
  • insightful speakers and keynote presentations
  • practical information about everyday life and services in Helsinki
  • activities, games and workshops
  • opportunities to meet other newcomers

The event is also family friendly and will include activities for children. Pets should be left at home.

Helsinki Welcome Day is part of the City of Helsinki’s services for new international residents.

Where is Helsinki Welcome Day?

Helsinki Welcome Day takes place at Helsinki City Hall on Pohjoisesplanadi 11–13.

It is in central Helsinki and is easily accessible by foot and public transport from nearby places, such as the Central Railway Station or Esplanadi Park.
