Building the new Helsinki East Urban Centre

The new Helsinki East Urban Centre is a rapidly evolving urban area that combines excellent accessibility, diverse services and city life. The area has exceptionally good public transport connections to all parts of the metropolitan area – in addition to the metro station, tram line 15 runs all the way to Keilaniemi in Espoo.

The commercial services in the area are  diverse and stand out from those in other areas. The diverse selection combines well-known chains and  interesting specialty shops that cannot be found anywhere else in the city.

Change begins with City projects

The City of Helsinki is investing significantly in the area: Cultural Centre Stoa is being renewed, the swimming hall is being modernised and public urban space is being developed comprehensively.  The housing stock is growing and diversifying with the new urban centre, the construction of the Puotila metro station area, the maritime Puotilanranta and the construction of new low-rise residential areas.

The City has built or modernised a number of schools and daycare centres in the area, and further improvements are underway or in the planning stage. The area already offers outstanding recreational opportunities, as Myllypuro Sports Park is just a stone's throw away.

The lush, maritime East Helsinki is home to approximately 120,000 residents. The eastern part of Helsinki is dominated by families with children and has the highest number of children of all of the city's major districts. The City is also taking this into account in new construction by particularly focusing on building homes suitable for families.
