On 24 February 2023, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has lasted for a full year. Concern for Ukraine and its people is still present daily. The City of Helsinki has shown its compassion and support through humanitarian aid and support to organisations that help Ukrainians in Helsinki. In addition, the city has offered services, support and guidance to those who have fled the war. The support will continue. The latest aid is allocated to helping children and the young in Ukraine.

“The need for humanitarian aid is huge in Ukraine. Ukrainian children and young people have suffered from the impacts of the war of aggression for a year already, not to mention the long-term effects of the war. They need all possible support and help. Based on an overall assessment, it is most practical to send the aid as money. The funding is given to UNICEF, the world’s most influential children’s organisation, which is actively operating in Ukraine and has long experience both with Ukraine and in operating in crisis situations”, Mayor Juhana Vartiainen says.
