The EUR 200,000 grant funding for the prevention of segregation will support the participation, community and low-threshold recreational opportunities of young people (9–12-year-olds) and young adults (18–24-year-olds). In particular, the aim is to increase the opportunities for girls with immigrant backgrounds to engage in hobbies and participate, as well as positive interaction between population groups. The grants will also support young adults’ wok ability.
Grants will be awarded to Helsinki-based associations and youth groups for activities that are primarily organised in the urban renewal areas (Mellunkylä, Kannelmäki, Malminkartano, Malmi and Meri-Rastila), as well as in other areas where children’s and young people’s participation in hobbies is lower than the city average. In 2025, there will be two approximately three-week application periods in the spring and autumn, which will be specified later.
