Koskela residents are invited to come and discuss matters concerning their own district and neighbourhood at Koskela Youth Centre ( Antti Korpin tie 3a(Link leads to external service) ) on Thursday 26 February 2026 from 18.00 to 19.30. The event will have room for around 60 people.

“I am delighted to have my first Mayor’s Resident Evening in Koskela. It is of the utmost importance to me to hear what Helsinki residents think about their own neighbourhoods and how we as the City can help each area succeed on its own strengths. For this reason, we are organising twice as many Mayor’s Resident Evenings this year, visiting every major district in Helsinki,” comments Mayor Daniel Sazonov

You can use a KerroKantasi survey to send the event organisers your thoughts and ideas regarding the development of Koskela before the event. The survey will close on 20 February 2026 at 23.59.

Borough liaison encourages residents to attend the Mayor’s Resident Evening

Gritten Naams, the borough liaison of the Central Major District, will be present at the Mayor’s Resident Evening.

“My job involves keeping up to date on what is happening in the Central Major District, and residents of Koskela have wished for a visit by the Mayor. This will be a great opportunity for Koskela residents to ask questions and share their thoughts about the services and development of Koskela in dialogue with the Mayor and the City,” points out Borough Liaison Naams.

The City’s borough liaisons help residents participate in the development of their residential area by supporting dialogue between residents, communities and City staff.

The Mayor’s Resident Evenings inspire discussion in the neighbourhood

City Manager Teuvo Aura proposed in the mid-1970s that the City hold ‘Helsinki Hours’ events during which experts would answer questions from residents and journalists. The City of Helsinki moved from having a City Manager to having a Mayor in June 2017, at which point it was decided that the events would be renamed as the Mayor’s Resident Evenings.

“The Resident Evenings are unique discussion events where residents get to ask the Mayor and specialists of the City directly about matters concerning their area,” explains Interaction Specialist Jarkko Laaksonen.

Under Mayor Sazonov, Resident Evenings will be held more frequently than before. Over the course of this year, the Mayor will visit all of Helsinki’s major districts to hear Helsinki residents’ thoughts on matters concerning their own area.

Helsinki’s pleasant and community-oriented neighbourhoods

“Helsinki residents can participate in the development of our city in many ways, as our capital offers good and increasingly diverse opportunities to do so. We will continue and develop aspects such as participatory budgeting and different ways to participate, in consultation with Helsinki residents,” says Participation Manager Johanna Stadius

At the request of Mayor Daniel Sazonov, Mayor’s Resident Evenings will be held more frequently than before. This year, the plan is to hold eight Mayor’s Resident Evenings. Partners in the event organisation include local residents’ associations and other non-profit operators.
