Exercise classes, culture experiences and many other interesting activities available to older people this autumn

This autumn will again bring seniors plenty of opportunities to exercise, visit different events and enjoy culture experiences across the city – on their own or with a friend. Many of our services are free or low-cost, and easy to access on foot or by public transport. Services such as the Liikuntaluuri helpline and Senior Info will help you find activities that best suit your interests.

The registration for exercise classes will start on Monday 11 August 2025, with courses starting at the beginning of September. Activities for older people include group exercise, aquatic exercise, gym groups and adaptive sports. The popular Senior Sports events will also continue, offering a low-threshold opportunity to try different forms of exercise. Suitable courses are available for both beginners and more advanced sports enthusiasts, and exercising on weekdays will be even more affordable thanks to our ‘weekday’ product.

Do you know all the cultural centres in the city? They offer free and affordable leisure activities also for older people. As examples, Kanneltalo will hold singalong events this autumn and Cultural Centre Stoa's circus courses guarantee fun-filled moments together.

Helsinki City Museum is a unit of five different museums, and we recommend you to visit and see them all. The museums are full of touching experiences that bring generations together. Our extensive library network invites you to read magazines, tinker at the workshops or knit while listening to short stories.

“We want to offer older people in Helsinki the opportunity to live active and enriching everyday lives, enjoying our wide range of services. If finding just the right activity for you feels difficult, the Liikuntaluuri and Senior Info services and the service experts in our locations are happy to help. I welcome all the city residents to experience the power of art and physical movement," says Juha Ahonen, the Head of Division for Culture and Leisure.

The brochure will also be available from 7 or 8 August onwards at our offices, including:
