City to remove trees in poor condition for safety reasons in the city centre, Lauttasaari, Töölö and Pasila

During late winter and early spring, street and park trees that are in poor condition or dead will be removed in Helsinki, especially in the city centre. The trees will be removed for safety reasons, as they are in danger of falling due to their poor condition. The removals will start in January and be completed in spring, before the arrival of migratory birds.

The City is constantly monitoring the condition of trees, especially along passageways. As a rule, any trees to be removed are felled early in the year. Winter is the best time to cut down damaged trees, as they are easier to handle when leafless and the snow protects the surrounding vegetation from the weight of falling trunks and machinery.

Tree felling is accompanied by other tree maintenance measures, such as the removal of dead branches.
