The aim of the competition is to find a first-class roadwork site with functional arrangements, guides and temporary access routes for all road users. The competition highlights and develops good practices on worksites and encourages improved worksite operations.

Both real estate and infrastructure worksites of all sizes can be nominated.

Residents can participate in the roadwork site competition by nominating their favourite worksites where they feel things are done particularly well. Infrastructure operators are also welcome to nominate their own worksites to the competition.

You can submit your nomination in a short survey (please use the link at the bottom of the page). You can answer to the survey in Finnish, Swedish and English.

The final choice will be made by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from Infra Contractors Association, Rakli association, the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities, Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired, the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce, HSL, HSY and the City of Helsinki. The competition is coordinated by Ramboll.

The panel of judges will engage in dialogue with the worksites during the competition and encourage them to keep up and develop good practices by providing feedback and suggestions for improvement. Thus, the worksites will benefit from participating in the competition alone.

Competition schedule:

  • The competition will start on Monday, 29 May with the opening of the resident survey. Worksites will be selected to participate in the competition based on the nominations. Nominations can be submitted until Sunday, 10 September.
  • During the summer, the panel of judges will monitor how the competition worksites perform in matters such as taking into account pedestrians and cyclists in the worksite surroundings, ensuring accessibility, cleanliness and safety, worksite information board and overall impression. Assessments will be made during site visits.
  • The competition winners (the winner and two honourable mentions) will be announced in early October.
  • You can follow the competition on social media with the hashtag #katutyömaa2023.
