Resident evening in Kamppi – Towards a new health and well-being centre

A resident evening at Kamppi Service Centre in February brought together 80 Helsinki residents who were interested in the future of health and social services in central Helsinki. The topic of the event was Kamppi Health and Well-being Centre that will start operating in 2028.

The central topics of the residents’ event were the construction of the health and well-being centre, which started in early 2024, and its upcoming service selection. The health and well-being centre will be the new location for many health and social services in central Helsinki.

The audience was especially interested in the availability of services, and they wished for improvements in this regard. The City’s aim is to improve the availability of services by developing new operating methods and offering longer opening hours. This work is done whenever a health and well-being centre, such as that in Kamppi, is being planned in Helsinki.

The event audience asked excellent questions regarding accessibility, among other topics. How will accessibility be taken into consideration in the building and its surroundings? Will residents with mobility limitations be able to take part in an accessibility tour, for example, well before operations start in the premises?

The audience also felt that the flow of pick-up and drop-off traffic and the location of parking areas are essential for ensuring accessibility. The topics brought up at the event will be revisited in the next residents’ events.

The atmosphere at the residents’ event was pleasant. The audience gave positive feedback on how the City involved the residents early on. The audience thought that the information received at the event was clear and sufficient at this point.

Helsinki City Strategy states that health and social services are developed and planned together with residents. Moving forward, we will host two resident evenings per year. We received some feedback from people wishing for hybrid events that they could participate in both on-site and online. This could encourage younger participants to attend the events.
