Maritime Helsinki offers excellent opportunities for boating. The city has dozens of marinas and around 12,000 berths. Explore the marinas and services on the mainland and in the archipelago, which are open to all boaters.
If you need winter storage for your boat, the city offers two options. You can apply for a marked space for winter storage or take your boat to your preferred unmarked winter storage area.
Helsinki offers boaters a safe and environmentally friendly way to empty their boat's septic tank at various marinas.
Boat berth reservations
Boat berth applications are submitted electronically. A boater with an existing boat berth can submit an application to exchange it.
How the process works
The City of Helsinki has dozens of marinas where boaters can apply for their own berth and boat storage space for the winter. Also see the more detailed instructions below on how to apply for or exchange a berth.
A berthed boat refers to any type of boat propelled by muscle power, wind or mechanical power, whose main users are its owners or operators and which is used primarily for sport and recreation.
Boaters who have already rented a boat berth from the city can submit an application to exchange their berth. Exchange applications are processed before new applications. The boat berth reservations office will process applications in the order in which they are received.
To apply for a boat berth, start by filling in the online application form. You can include a maximum of 10 preferred marinas in your application. The boat berth reservations office typically processes applications for berths from March until the end of June. When a suitable berth becomes available, a berth offer email and text message will be sent to the applicant. Offers will be sent by the end of June.

Winter storage facilities for boats
Customers can apply for a marked space for winter storage or take their boat to their preferred unmarked winter storage area.
How the process works
To apply for a marked winter storage space, start by filling in the online winter storage application form. The application form is intended for new applicants for a marked spot. Customers who had a marked space last season will be sent an invoice for the current space. Spaces that become available will be assigned based on the order of received applications. We will send you an offer for a space by email and SMS.
There is no need to complete an application form for unmarked winter storage areas. Customers can take their boat to their preferred unmarked winter storage area starting from 15 September. The customer must then complete an electronic unmarked winter storage notification. Customers must submit an unmarked winter storage notification annually if they move their boat to an unmarked storage area for the winter.
