The special youth activity grant for the prevention of segregation supports projects and activities that prevent regional segregation and segregation between population groups in Helsinki. The specific priorities for the grant are to promote accessibility to leisure activities, increase positive interaction and improve the working capacity of young adults. The activities are primarily aimed at adolescents (9–12-years-olds), young adults (18–24-year-olds) and girls with an immigrant background.

This year, the Youth Sub-committee will award grants totalling 196,000 euros to ten projects. In addition to this, a grant of 4,000 euros will be awarded to two projects by officeholder decision.

Activities implemented with the help of the grant in 2026 include:

  • Special camps for girls aged 9–12, especially for girls with an immigrant background.
  • Supporting young adults' work ability and integration into working life through day activities, work experience, mentoring and workshops.
  • Enabling low-threshold hobby trials and longer-term, accessible activities in arts, culture and sport.

The main regional focus of the grant is on the suburban regeneration areas of Malminkartano, Kannelmäki, Malmi, Mellunkylä and Meri-Rastila. In addition to these, activities are also organised on a needs basis in other selected areas.

This is the second time that a special grant has been awarded to prevent segregation of children and young people. The total amount of the grant was 200,000 euros in 2025 as well.
