On Sunday, 8 February 2026, the smell of smoke was detected at Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall. As a result, the rescue services were called to the scene and the swimming hall was evacuated. The smell of smoke was suspected to have originated from the chimney of the wood-fired sauna on the second floor of the building.
After Sunday, the sauna stove and chimney were examined, and a tracer test was conducted to identify any possible leakage point. The chimney was then resurfaced internally, and the tracer test was repeated on Thursday, 19 February. The stove was test-heated on Saturday, and once everything was confirmed to function properly, the sauna can be reopened on Tuesday 24.2.
