Helsinki invites all residents to see the new and expanded pedestrian and recreational areas on the Espla-nadi streets. The experimental renovations are mostly complete, and the streets now feature pleasant recreational areas, with furniture and plants. The lush summer streets will also open in their usual places, on Kasarmikatu and Erottajankatu streets and the Design Museum Square.

Helsinki Day programme in the area:

9.00–17.00 Esplanadi light post flower decoration competition
In the flower decoration competition, a total of ten light posts will be decorated. Each team of contestants will decorate one post. The residents will vote for the winner, and the winning entry will receive a prize.

12.00–14.00 and 16.00–18.00 Flower workshop in the Design Museum Square
In the flower workshop, attendees will get to make corsages and boutonnières under the guidance of a professional. The workshop will take about 20 minutes. Each workshop can accept about 25 participants.

16.00–17.30 The Guards Band
The seven-member band Tusan Brass will start from the Runeberg Statue in Esplanadi Park at 16.00, tour the nearby streets and arrive at the Design Museum Square at 17.30.

17.00–19.00 Helsinki Day Mini Choir Round
The choirs will perform across the summer street event sites, terraces and pedestrian streets, entertaining the attendees of the Dinner Under the Sky event on Esplanadi as well.

Finished in June

The expanded areas for walking, cycling and recreation in Esplanadi will be completed in June. The works to be finished after Helsinki Day include building a few widenings and potentially painting road markings and planting.
