Helsinki Mayor participates in Nordic Solidarity for Peace conference in Reykjavik

The Höfði Reykjavík Peace Centre in collaboration with Icelandic Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers brings together experts and decision-makers from various fields to discuss how to strengthen Nordic cooperation aimed at peacebuilding. Mayor Juhana Vartiainen participates in the 10 October conference in Iceland, the nation that currently holds the rotating Nordic Council presidency, at the invitation of Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur Bergþóruson Eggertsson.

Mayor Vartiainen, Mayor Eggertsson and Andriy Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv, Ukraine, will discuss the role of cities in promoting peace in a panel discussion on the first day of the event.

“Nurturing a common vision of sustainable peace in the Nordic countries and all of Europe is important, because social stability is a prerequisite for all of our wellbeing and equality, in addition to the protection of environmental and human rights,” says Mayor Vartiainen.

During his visit, Mayor Vartiainen will also meet with the mayors of Reykjavík and Lviv in one-on-one discussions.
