COVID-19 vaccinations will next be given to at-risk children aged 5-11-years-old, whose illness or condition may increase the risk of severe coronavirus, or a coronavirus infection may worsen the symptoms of the child's underlying illness. Vaccinations can be received from the Jätkäsaari COVID-19 vaccination point without an appointment on Saturday 18 December 10:00-16:00.
Risk groups of 5-11-year-olds to be vaccinated
The groups now being vaccinated include children with the following illness or condition:
- organ transplant or stem cell transplant
- severe immunosuppressive therapy or severe immunodeficiency
- a chronic pulmonary disease
- some children's heart diseases
- chronic nephropathy
- severe chronic liver disease
- overweight, ISO-BMI of at least 30, see more information here
- paediatric neurological patients with respiratory failure and/or increased susceptibility to infection
- Down syndrome
- type 1 and 2 diabetes
- asthma requiring continuous medication. The group includes children using daily therapeutic asthma medication. The medication for treatment should be long-lasting, with continuous use for at least 6 months.
The child's inclusion in the above risk groups should be presented at the vaccination point upon request. This can be proved by a copy of a medical report or by information extracted from the Omakanta service.
Vaccinations are staggered on Saturday, according to last names
Vaccinations are given at the Jätkäsaari vaccination point at Tyynenmerenkatu 6 L3. In order to avoid congestion at the vaccination point, we hope that children will be brought in alphabetical order by surname as follows:

Guardian consent to vaccination of a minor
Minors can decide whether they want to have the vaccination if a healthcare professional administering the vaccine deems them able to make the decision based on their age and development level. The matter is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
If a child is unable to decide on their own vaccination or does not want to decide for themselves, the consent of all guardians is required for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccinations are voluntary and free of charge. Consent can be given with this form (in Finnish).(Link leads to external service)
If the child appears for their vaccination with only one guardian, the absent guardian must have signed the consent form. The consent form can be printed from THL's (Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare) website here (in Finnish).(Link leads to external service)
The vaccine offered to 5-11-year-olds is Biontech-Pfizer's Comirnaty vaccine.
COVID-19 vaccinations will also be given on 21 December
If the child cannot be brought for vaccination on Saturday 18 December, then vaccinations can also be given on Tuesday 21 December 15:30-18:00 at the vaccination points of Jätkäsaari (Tyynenmerenkatu 6 L3) and Myllypuro (Myllypurontie 1).
Children aged 5-11-years-old belonging to risk groups will receive COVID-19 vaccinations at family centres after 21 December. More information on vaccinations at family centres will be provided later.
Second dose of COVID-19 vaccination
The second dose of COVID-19 vaccination will be given to at-risk 5-11-year-olds without an appointment at the Jätkäsaari COVID-19 vaccination point on Saturday 29 January 10:00-16:00.
