During the week, restaurants in schools and education institutions will be serving fish fingers, macaroni casserole, tortillas, spinach pancakes and hamburgers. Restaurants in daycare centres will not only be serving fish fingers, spinach pancakes and macaroni bake, but also chicken curry, vegetable curry, fish soup and puréed vegetable soup, which children listed as their favourite dishes in the feedback survey.
The purpose of Wish List Week is to thank pupils and daycare-aged children as well as their guardians for their valuable feedback and for responding to the survey.
“The feedback provides us with important information about our customers' favourite dishes and the dishes that still have room for improvement. In addition to providing feedback, survey respondents also get to participate in the planning of the Wish List Week menu. For example, the hamburgers we served last August on the school food theme day were so popular that pupils asked for them to be served again during Wish List Week," says Head of Food Services Tuulia Pelli from Palvelukeskus Helsinki.
The development of food services is steered by the voices of customers
Customer feedback has a significant impact on food services, with Wish List Week being just one example of this. In Helsinki, restaurant committees composed of school pupils regularly participate in tastings of dishes planned for school menus and themed dishes to ensure that the dishes correspond to pupils’ preferences as well as possible.
In addition to an annual customer satisfaction survey, feedback is collected through quick feedback devices in schools and educational institutions and through Helsinki's general feedback service. All feedback is processed and taken into account in the development of operations.
“Feedback helps us to improve our recipes and find the right balance between varied and appealing lunch options. Individual dishes can be modified based on feedback or added to the menu if they receive particularly high praise,” explains Pelli.
The favourite dishes of pupils and daycare-aged children were surveyed in the feedback survey. The survey is carried out electronically every year in all schools and daycare centres where food services are provided by Palvelukeskus Helsinki.
