The sections of the new Pohjoisbaana cycle path between Käpylä station and Oulunkyläntie and between Jokiniementie and Tulvaniitynpolku will now be constructed. The existing pedestrian and cycle path along the track will be upgraded as part of the Baana network. The cycle path will be resurfaced with red asphalt and the pavements with standard asphalt.
The works will begin in the area around Oulunkylä station during the week starting on 27 July and be completed by the end of September 2027. The project involves upgrading the lighting, building telecommunications ducts and installing new water supply systems.
The work will be carried out primarily between 7.00 and 20.00 on weekdays.
The contractor is VM Suomalainen Oy.
Changes to routes
Pedestrian and cycling routes will be diverted in accordance with the different stages of the project to alternative routes, which will be signposted in the area. The works will also cause occasional noise and dust nuisance. Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes during construction.
Pohjoisbaana being built in stages
Pohjoisbaana is being built in stages and will connect at its southern end to the existing Baana network. Later, it will extend northwards as far as the Vantaa border.
When completed, Pohjoisbaana will run east of the railway line between Käpylä and the Vantaa border, connecting Oulunkylä, Pukinmäki, Malmi, Tapanila and Puistola. In the future, the Baanas will form a coherent regional network of cycle paths in Helsinki that will extend roughly 140 kilometres.
