Late summer in Helsinki is still packed with all sorts of events in August. The streets of the capital come alive with street and music festivals, running events and the parades of the Night of the Arts, which is part of the Helsinki Festival.
Kallio Block Party on Saturday 1 August
Kallio Block Party will take place on Saturday 1 August in the area around Viipurinkatu in Alppiharju from 12.00 to 22.00. Open to everyone and free of charge, the event will fill the area with music and other entertainment, as well as large crowds and a lively atmosphere.

Flow Festival takes over Suvilahti on 14–16 August
Flow Festival takes place in Suvilahti in August. The setup and dismantling of the festival site will affect traffic in Kalasatama. The setup will begin at the end of July.
The Hanasaari power station area will be closed to through traffic from 3 to 21 August. In addition to this, Vilhonvuorenkatu between Sörnäisten rantatie and Koksikatu will be closed from 13 to 17 August due to the event.
Pedestrians and cyclists can get from Kalasatama to the inner city via the Merihaansilta bridge. Otherwise, the alternative route is via Työpajankatu.
Tens of thousands of music lovers are expected to flock to Suvilahti during the festival weekend.
Night of the Arts celebrated on Thursday 20 August
The traditional Night of the Arts will be celebrated across the city on Thursday 20 August. One of the highlights will be the Les Girafes street performance, which will proceed as a parade through the city centre.
The parade will set off from the intersection of Keskuskatu and Pohjoisesplanadi at around 19.00 and proceed along Pohjoisesplanadi, turning from Unioninkatu onto Senate Square, where the show’s grand finale will take place.
Helsinki Marathon takes runners around the city on Saturday 22 August
The marathon route starts next to Kaivopuisto and will take runners around the streets and seafronts of central Helsinki to the new Kruunuvuorensilta bridge and on to Laajasalo. From there, the runners will return via Herttoniemi, Viikki and Oulunkylä, following the main railway line towards the city centre, where the route eventually loops back to Merisatamanranta.
The event also includes a 10-kilometre run, which starts at Kaisaniemenranta.
Thousands of runners are expected to take part in the event.
Sandstorm Run takes place on Saturday 29 August
This running event will take place in Kaivopuisto and southern Helsinki, in the neighbourhoods familiar from Darude’s hit music video.
